Penny Stone

Photo of Penny Stone outside, looking downwards, with a green grass and tree backgroundPenny Stone is a songleader, teacher, singer and composer based in Edinburgh. She works with community singing groups and has a special interest in singing to support mental and physical health and wellbeing.

Penny particularly loves to write music for acapella singing groups, and enjoys singing and sharing different harmonic traditions from around the world. She loves a bit of jazzy/groovy rhythm as well as lush harmonies. She is drawn to themes of nature and community, as well as music that soothes and comforts.

Penny is also passionate about radical song, using music to support local and global struggles for social and environmental justice. She believes that everyone can sing, and that everybody has the right to use their voice.

Penny told us: “I’m so looking forward to working with Stonehouse Male Voice Choir to write a new song together. It’s great to be working with a choir that has such a long history, having been founded in 1936 in a joiners yard. I am looking forward to getting to know the singers and their community, and going to town with some glorious four part harmony as well!”
