Mary Ann Kennedy

Biography

Mary Ann is a musician, writer and broadcaster with nearly 40 years experience in leading junior and senior choirs and singing groups. She holds degrees from RSAMD Glasgow and RNCM Manchester. She is a native Gaelic speaker and specialises in Gaelic choral music. She also has an extensive library of choral songs and song settings, many of which have been recorded, broadcast or set for competition.

Which types of song leading do you specialise in?

I specialise in Gaelic choral singing and work principally with adults, but have a broad range of musical interests and enjoy performing contemporary classical music and recording backing vocals for diverse artists.

Tell us your top three areas of expertise

Musical direction of choirs and multidisciplinary projects, arranging, recording voices.

Do you lead on any particular areas within the Scotland Sings Steering Group?

I lead on Gaelic music.

Aside from singing, what couldn’t you live without?

My dog and my man.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

I am actively involved in incorporating sustainability targets in my daily work.
