Katy Lavinia Cooper combines her role as Director of Chapel Music at the University of Glasgow with freelance work as a conductor, composer/arranger and singer. Her role at the university includes not only conducting the acclaimed Chapel Choir, but also working with the University Choral Society, the staff/student Community Choir and some teaching. Katy conducts the Scottish Opera Community Choir and co-directs Glasgow Madrigirls and the Glad Café Kids Choir. She is a popular workshop leader in her own right and with folk-harmony group Muldoon’s Picnic.
An established conducting tutor with Sing for Pleasure (including leading the Glasgow 5-day Course – back this year!), Katy took up the role of Head of Marketing in 2021.
As a composer and arranger, Katy specialises in writing for choir with recent commissions including soundtrack work for a BBC documentary (Dooman, 2021), arrangements for feature film (Our Ladies, 2021) and for various choirs throughout the UK.
Katy has a PhD in Music (focussing on seventeenth century Scottish vocal music) and won the Hands up for Trad Community Teacher of the Year award in 2018.
