Earnsong is a community, no-audition choir for anyone who enjoys singing. We are based in Comrie, Perthshire, and led by the wonderful Adelaide Carlow. The choir has been running for 5 years, singing songs from all over the world, traditional and contemporary. About 25 singers joined our weekly sessions in pre-COVID times. We are a group who love singing together simply for the joy it brings and we perform occasionally for various local events.
In “lockdown”, we arranged online meetings but were disappointed to discover we couldn’t sing together because of time delay. Over the course of the pandemic, with help from “Supporting Communities Funding” and Adelaide at the helm, we have compiled some virtual videos, with individual members recording themselves and sending recordings to our resident video artist, Helen, to create some really lovely online pieces. These were edited with local children singing, playing music, and included local scenes. We shared these with the community, local care homes, and sheltered housing as we were very aware the residents were really missing social contacts in the village and felt very restricted. We have continued with virtual drop-in choir sessions (mostly on mute) where we learn great new songs and sing along with streaming harmonies which is great fun.
We are looking forward to this project because it sounds brilliant and a really great opportunity. It gives us a focus as we head through the uncertain coming months.
