Fochabers Community Sing started in August 2020 after some members of my local choir said that they were missing singing together. When it became clear that we were going to be unable to get back to singing I decided to try an alternative. The choir is now at 32 members and this has grown substantially recently especially as people realised that there is no audition and that the only criteria is to enjoy singing! No one is excluded and I pride myself in that we are a totally inclusive choir involving all abilities.
We have recently started a Zoom night and everyone seems to enjoy that as it means that we can see people from outside our ‘bubble’. My preferred way of trying to get interested parties to sing is to send out a video of me singing a song, using a separate video for different parts with the words on the video as well as getting a hard copy. When the choir members feel they know the song well enough they send me a video of them singing which is then put together with the others.
We are really looking forward to this project as apart from being fun it will give us something to focus on which is at the moment a difficult thing to find. I feel it will help to build the confidence of the members and we are very excited to be working with someone new to complete this project.
