Whisper Wildly was created by Zac Scott in collaboration with members of Fochabers Community Sing and Elm Music Therapy’s signing and signing choir. It is a pop-oriented ballad featuring an enigmatic lyric and a heartfelt chorus hook “You know you’re lifting me up”. Zac has created a full band-style backing track and we have made a transcribed piano part and a lead sheet.
The lyrics were developed in digital distanced workshops and the title came out of a gathering of the members of the choirs when they first met with Zac on Zoom. People were struggling to have their voices heard and to be understood, and this gave Zac an overarching metaphor for the song. The themes of resilience and looking after each other run through the whole lyric. The vocal parts are scored for soprano, alto and tenor voices, but it’s easy to imagine bass voices joining in, and taking a flexible approach to part singing. Basses could easily sing alto parts an octave below, and tenors could sing the notated solo soprano lines an octave down.
The wonderful team at Elm Music Therapy have created a signing version of the song that everyone has enjoyed learning and sharing. We think it’s beautiful and enriches the performance aspect of the song.
